Help is on the way for rehousing county’s homeless
Peters Township, PA (September 16, 2016) - Representative John Maher happily shared good news with Washington County today that the county will receive $363,000 in grants awarded by Pennsylvania. The County’s winning proposal for Continuum of Care program funds fo-cused on rapidly rehousing families with children and individuals facing homelessness with transitional rental assistance, utilities and security deposits.

Maher noted, “Anyone who has rented an apartment remembers that, even when monthly car-rying costs are affordable, there is a mighty steep mountain to climb to fund security deposits for the landlord, electric, gas, telephone, and other utilities.

Washington County is wise to fo-cus on helping the homeless climb that mountain and transition to a stable home.”

Washington County Commissioner Diana Irey Vaughan exclaimed, “The timing of this good news couldn’t be better. This significant infusion of support will effectively help all of our ini-tiatives for re-entry programs, victims of domestic abuse and others facing homelessness.”
